Now that the whole nuclear standoff/drama with Fayed has passed, the crisis is over, and the heroes have been hailed, I believe it's time we all took a moment to pay homage to one of the not-so-hailed heroes--and Hamri Al-Assad is definitely one we owe a big, fat "thank-you" to.
Sure, our dear Assad was once a terrorist. For 20 years, he was the head of a Middle-Eastern terrorist cell, with a vast knowledge of violence and ill acts against America and its allies. But as the reformed former terrorist leader, Assad became a crusader for peace, embarking on a mission to save America and the world from a horrible demise at the hands of nuclear technology.
If not for the bravery of Hamri Al-Assad, Jack Bauer might not have gotten his mojo back, the L.A. metro would have been attacked by a suicide bomber, and CTU would have never gotten the "Gredenko" lead that eventually led them to the remaining suitcase nukes that Fayed totally would have detonated. Because he knows what he's doin' with 'em. ...or did, I should say.
Hamri Al-Assad met his untimely end while attempting to further his peace agenda. He died during an assassination attempt on President Palmer's life, throwing himself into the line of fire a second before the bomb beneath the podium detonated.
It took me a bit of thought as to what would be the most fabulous way to honor our dearest Assad. But then it hit me.
